Job Title:            Site Chemist - Hazardous Waste Transfer Station

Location:             Cardiff

Salary:                 £18,000 - £25,000, depending on experience

Hours:                  Monday – Friday, 8 hours per day between the hours of 7:00am – 6:00pm.

Reporting to:     Senior Site Chemist

 

Reporting to the Senior Site Chemist, the purpose of the role is to assist with receiving, processing and despatch wastes through a hazardous waste transfer facility.

 

Paramount to the role is that waste is assessed and handled in an approved manner ensuring Health, Safety and Environmental compliance are met whilst demonstrating adherence to procedures and a keen eye for detail.

 

Key aspects of the role:

  1. Ensure security of waste entering the facility and disposal in line with any required internal or customer requirement.
  2. Ensure inputs and outputs meet defined standards e.g. PPC, pre acceptance, onward transfer caveats.
  3. Ensure that stock flows through the site to ensure delays and backlogs are minimised.
  4. Stock control and inventory of materials, both waste and consumables held on site.
  5. Maintain a high level of housekeeping in all areas and ensure any housekeeping activities are carried out in an effective and timely manner.
  6. Ensure compliance with all company policy, process and procedures.
  7. Maintain a positive Health and Safety culture with conscientious near miss/hazard spotting reporting
  8. Good customer facing skills will be vital as there will be a requirement to assist in client site visits and Duty of Care audits.
  9. Additional operations admin support assisting the booking in of waste loads.

 

Working closely with site operational teams to maximise shared resource, the job holder will undergo or carry out any training as agreed or requested to strengthen their abilities or the abilities of others.

 

Assist the Senior Site Chemist, Technical Manager and SHEQ Manager in meeting their targets.

 

The Job holder will also assist in Duty of Care compliance audits with existing and potential customers. Also helping to develop written operating procedures and risk assessments.

 

You will analyse samples according to Company Procedures.

 

The Job holder may have to undertake work at other facilities including customer's premises. This may involve travelling and nights away. You will also be cross trained over transfer station duties. The job may include other reasonable duties/tasks from time to time.

 

The ideal candidate:

  1. Experience as a Chemist in a hazardous waste management business or chemical/manufacturing industry is essential
  2. HNC / Degree Chemistry qualification is essential
  3. DGSA desirable
  4. WAMITAB desirable
  5. Experience of direct interaction with customers / hazardous waste producers.
  6. IT literate - Using MS Office.
  7. Knowledge & understanding of the requirements of working within a time critical processing environment.
  8. Analytical with the ability to measure and monitor data.
  9. Organised with the ability to simplify complex issues.
  10. Good written and verbal Communication skills at all levels.
  11. Full, clean UK valid driving license.
  12. Willingness to travel within the UK for meetings and project work at other locations.
  13. Flexible and Adaptable.
